GST calculator
Work out adding or removing GST and splitting it using your own figures. Check the assumptions before you act on the result.

- Gst added
- ₹43,200.00
- Total with gst
- ₹2,83,200.00
- Gst included
- ₹18,000.00
- Cgst half
- ₹21,600.00
- Sgst half
- ₹21,600.00
- Igst full
- ₹43,200.00
How it is worked out
add GST: GST = amount x rate ÷ 100; remove GST from an inclusive price: GST = amount x rate ÷ (100 + rate); split into CGST and SGST (half each) or IGST (full)
gst_added = taxable_amount*gst_rate_percent/100total_with_gst = taxable_amount+gst_addedgst_included = gst_inclusive_amount*gst_rate_percent/(100+gst_rate_percent)cgst_half = gst_added/2sgst_half = gst_added/2igst_full = gst_added
Check before you rely on it. Confirm product GST rate and eligibility for intra-state versus inter-state treatment. Have an accountant or the right specialist check any figure that affects tax, a legal duty, safety or a large purchase.
What it works out
The gst calculator turns records from the business into a figure for this decision: adding or removing GST and splitting it. Use it when the responsible accountant and CA needs a consistent answer for this specific task. The answer uses only the values entered. Record the measurement period beside it.
What you need
| Input | Unit | Where to find it |
|---|---|---|
| Taxable amount (example: ₹2,40,000) | ₹ | Use the applicable agreement, portal, bank statement or current verified rule for taxable amount. |
| Gst rate percent (example: 18 %) | % | Use the applicable agreement, portal, bank statement or current verified rule for GST rate percent. |
| Gst inclusive amount (example: ₹1,18,000) | ₹ | Use the applicable agreement, portal, bank statement or current verified rule for GST inclusive amount. |
Use the same item, period and measurement unit for related inputs. If a figure comes from an estimate rather than an actual record, mark it as estimated. Keep your original figures beside the result.
The formula
In plain words, calculate iGST full using the measured inputs below. The expressions are shown without hidden rounding so they can be checked by hand.
- GST added:
gst_added = taxable_amount*gst_rate_percent/100. - total with GST:
total_with_gst = taxable_amount+gst_added. - GST included:
gst_included = gst_inclusive_amount*gst_rate_percent/(100+gst_rate_percent). - cGST half:
cgst_half = gst_added/2. - sGST half:
sgst_half = gst_added/2. - iGST full:
igst_full = gst_added.
Formula basis from the supplied taxonomy: add GST: GST = amount x rate ÷ 100; remove GST from an inclusive price: GST = amount x rate ÷ (100 + rate); split into CGST and SGST (half each) or IGST (full). The outputs show GST added, GST included in an inclusive amount, and two different tax-split cases.
A worked example
Illustrative example: a retail wholesaler uses the figures in the table above. These are example inputs, not industry averages. For this example, the main figures are taxable amount: ₹2,40,000, GST rate percent: 18 %, GST inclusive amount: ₹1,18,000.
- Gst added:
taxable_amount*gst_rate_percent/100. With the example figures,240000.0 * 18.0 / 100gives ₹43,200. - Total with gst:
taxable_amount+gst_added. With the example figures,240000.0 + 43200.0gives ₹2,83,200. - Gst included:
gst_inclusive_amount*gst_rate_percent/(100+gst_rate_percent). With the example figures,118000.0 * 18.0 / (100 + 18.0)gives ₹18,000. - Cgst half:
gst_added/2. With the example figures,43200.0 / 2gives ₹21,600. - Sgst half:
gst_added/2. With the example figures,43200.0 / 2gives ₹21,600. - Igst full:
gst_added. With the example figures,43200.0gives ₹43,200.
How to act: Use the result to reconcile it against the portal or payroll record. Write down the input date and the assumption that could move most.
How to read the result
Example bands, change them for your business:
- Comfortable: Your result meets the target for this item or reporting period. Keep the calculation with its source records and reconcile it against the portal or payroll record.
- Watch: The result is close to your action limit, or it changed since the previous calculation. Recheck taxable amount and GST rate percent using the original records.
- Act: The result breaks a limit already agreed by the manager or owner. Record the difference, name a responsible person, and agree a correction date. For an operational starting point, read [Gst returns filed late](/problems/gst-returns-filed-late) and [Monthly gst cycle](/processes/monthly-gst-cycle). Do not use these example bands as published industry benchmarks.
Copy it into a spreadsheet
Create a sheet with column A for the label and column B for the number or formula. The expressions work in Excel or Google Sheets. Keep input cells editable and result cells protected from typing.
| Cell | Label | Value or formula |
|---|---|---|
| B2 | taxable amount | 240000.000000 |
| B3 | GST rate percent | 18.000000 |
| B4 | GST inclusive amount | 118000.000000 |
| B6 | GST added | =((B2*B3)/100) |
| B7 | total with GST | =(B2+B6) |
| B8 | GST included | =((B4*B3)/(100+B3)) |
| B9 | cGST half | =(B6/2) |
| B10 | sGST half | =(B6/2) |
| B11 | iGST full | =B6 |
For any formula containing a divisor, enter a value above zero. For any monetary output, format the cell in Indian rupees. Do not replace the cells with rounded figures until the final display.
What this calculator leaves out
- Eligibility, ceilings, exemptions and effective dates may change the lawful amount.
- CGST and SGST halves apply to an eligible intra-state supply; IGST is shown as the alternative for inter-state supply.
- The formula does not check whether the records are complete. Read amounts and dates from the filed return, challan or payroll record. Confirm the current rule before use.
Common mistakes
- Mixing periods. Using taxable amount from one month with GST rate percent from another produces a number that looks precise but is hard to act on.
- Trusting old figures. Recheck the relevant source record before reusing last month's saved inputs. Treat the result as an estimate for reconciliation with the official portal.
- Treating an estimate as approval. Record which assumptions were entered by hand. Get the relevant owner, accountant or technician to check unusual values.
A number like this helps only if someone works it out again when things change.
Questions people ask
Where do I find the numbers for gst calculator?
Use the applicable agreement, portal, bank statement or current verified rule for taxable amount. Use the applicable agreement, portal, bank statement or current verified rule for GST rate percent. Keep all inputs from the same period.
Can I use this number to approve a purchase or payment?
Use it as a first check. Use the result to reconcile it against the portal or payroll record. Write down the input date and the assumption that could move most. If the result affects tax, legal duties, workplace safety or a major investment, obtain the appropriate review.
When should I calculate it again?
Recalculate when a meaningful input changes, and at the next regular review of the relevant register. Save the date and the input values so changes can be explained.
